These photos are of two different dragonflies and were taken towards the end of last summer. I enjoy the challenge of photographing these beautiful insects and have learned that when they fly away or get frightened off they will often return to the same blade of grass or stem they were perched on a minute before. If you’re patient and stay put you will be rewarded.

Beautiful photos, Belinda. Last summer was my first semi-serious attempt at capturing dragons. It’s a real challenge, but, as you say, they usually return to the same place, so you can get a second chance. I’m looking forward to summer and more dragonfly photo opps.

It’s been mentioned, but I also love the shadow in the first shot and the detail in both. Well done!

WOW! WOW! Did I say “WOW” yet? 🙂 I have to agree with Laura above that the shadow in the first one is very unique, but the composition in the second one is great – the blade of grass just sweeps your eye right onto the subject! Great stuff!

I like the shadow in the first photo. It’s good to know they will return to the same place. I will have to watch for that.
