ICE CAPADES (TWO PHOTOGRAPHS)

Last year the ice began to form on the lake in November. The mallards were pretty firm footed although the duck in the first photo is looking as though she can’t believe what hit her. The angle of the sun and the reflection off the ice made for some tricky lighting on the ducks. Radial filters in Lightroom balanced the exposure quite nicely.

  3. What must the ducks think when the water’s stiff (from the movie Bambi).

  4. Great shots, Belinda! 🙂
Once, when i lived in Michigan, i was walking by a lake and inadvertently frightened some ducks that were standing along its banks. A couple of them tried to land in the water… but the water wasn’t water; it had recently froze mirror solid. They slid and spun around in circles and it was quite comical! 🙂

  6. Great pictures. Can’t help feeling sorry for the birds when the water freezes up. It’s like a lock on the fridge door.

  12. The change from water to ice must be rather discombobulating for the birds at first. Lovely imges.
