Cardinals are “all weather” birds that remain throughout the year and I have photographed them in every season. This was taken in October on a day when the light was nicely filtered and both the bird and the background colour mesh well together. The conditions were perfect with a very cooperative subject in no hurry to leave.

Once my hubby finishes our backyard deck, I want to entice more birds into my backyard! Love the photo! I do have my hummers, and they are still feeding here in Northern Cal. Spring gets here by mid-February although we still get rain (thank goodness the California drought seems to be over judging by the pounding we are getting these days!). We used to have several generations of a magpie family years ago, but they flew the coop, LOL. We also get mockingbirds. I’ll have to create a backyard buffet area like fellow blogger TrailWalker has 🙂

It sounds like a wonderful idea. I have to go a little further afield (living downtown) but would if I could😊

Beautiful shot and wonderful capture of the eye and coloring. I have one visiting daily, but refusing to cooperate.

Wonderful, rich photo, Belinda. We do not have the pleasure of the northern cardinals on the west coast, it’s great that you have them year-round. I love the detail here: the slightly ruffled feathers, the piercing eye, and that little hooked tip of the upper bill.

Thank you Ellen. I like birds in the fall they’re less skittish and are easier to take.
