Chickadees are the most acrobatic of birds and they’re fun to capture as they fly in and land nearby. They never stay still for long so I’m always pleased to get a decent close up shot. As the weather gets colder they do linger a little longer though hoping for some seed from passersby. They are also one of the few birds that can lower their body temperature to conserve energy on cold winter nights.

Nice ones! Infuriating to photograph -always on the move, with bits of twig in the way! RH

Nice crisp shots of one of my favorite little birds. They are tough to get holding still. Interesting about the temperature lowering.

Great captures of these cute little birds! I’ve heard of people training them to eat out of there laps. If I recall correctly you put some kind of a dummy in a lawn chair with a bowl of seed in the lap … eventually you replace the dummy with yourself. (I don’t ‘think’ I’m making this up!) 🙂

Great shots of one of my favorite birds! Hummingbirds also have the ability to lower their body temperature and slow their metabolism and heart rate to conserve energy. I wonder what other tiny birds have this ability?

Beautiful, Belinda! I love their little faces and the way they eat seed held between their toes. Such cuties.

Wonderful pictures!!! I agree that chickadees are very hard to photograph. At my feeders, they dart in and out very quickly.
