STOPS ALONG THE WAY

PAINTED LADY BUTTERFLIES (TWO PHOTOGRAPHS)

As we veered off the main path at the reserve we were treated to a slew of painted ladies. They were flying in great numbers and I kept my camera trained on a few as they lingered on the clover. These were taken with my 70-200mm lens and I took well over 100 photographs. More to come…

  4. Lovely and such a nice contrast with the clover flowers. Wonderful to have choices of which one to take and different angles.

  6. Lovely – one year there were so many here but haven’t seen them in great numbers since.

  7. Great shots Belinda! I’ve heard Kansas is experiencing a large migration this year. I’ve seen several today camping at 6,000′ in central AZ (Mogollon Rim).

  8. This was enjoyable as we haven’t seen a painted lady this year at all.

  9. Nice shots, Belinda. We have had huge numbers of painted ladies this year.
They say the migration in our area is larger than in the last 12 years.

  10. Great captures. Belinda. I love the furry back, which I never saw before. I’ve noticed a lot of them here lately, too. They are so pretty!

  14. Gorgeous pictures, I’m a huge butterfly fan; and I think this is the same species we see in the UK.

  15. Hi Belinda,
Great shots! Seems we both are seeing lots of painted ladies these days. I posted one (with some other unnoticed action happening!) as well!

  17. Both interesting angles. I particularly like the one taken from underneath, but then the other shows the ‘fluffy’ back.
