Our favourite reserve was damaged in a destructive windstorm storm last week and is closed to the public for the foreseeable future. We’ll miss the beauty of the place and the animals that call it home. In the meantime we’ve been exploring new trails and spotted this white-throated sparrow along one of them.

Sorry to hear about your favorite park, Belinda. But unforeseen opportunities may be forthcoming. 🙂 I’ve noticed the WTS flocks in the underbrush the past few weeks and the warblers passing through, too. Vs of geese, turkey vultures, everyone getting out of Dodge before the snow flies!

Thanks Eliza. We’re going a little further afield right now. We haven’t seen as much activity as you describe, except for the geese😏

I always feel sorry for the birds and little animals when a natural disaster strikes their homes. I hope this little guy didn’t get his feathers ruffled too much. I hope this favourtie spot of yours gets fixed up soon. Good that you have other areas to explore meanwhile.

They seem pretty resilient given what’s thrown at them. Here’s hoping for a calmer Fall😏

Nicely captured!
Wow, very sorry you have lost access to your favorite place. I do hope you find some new places to explore. I wonder what the wildlife was thinking during that crazy 5 minutes.

Thanks Ellen! Ottawa is surrounded by a Greenbelt, so no shortage of places to go to. We’ve kind of adopted this particular reserve though and will miss going there. It’s been a tough year for wildlife in our area, yet another blow.

The climate is playing havoc down in the wildlife area’s here too. Some have not reopened in over a year, some may never be the same. The hurricanes drive through changing the landscape.

It’s awful. In this case it was a 5 minute storm.

Sounds like a tropical monsoon. At times of the year we do get them. The drops are so large, and so many there can be inches of water (4 inches in less than an hour). And the drops actually hurt 😀

People who have crossed the barriers tell us that many old trees are down and paths un-walkable. I’m afraid it will be a while before we can return.

Such delicate colouring. I enjoy the fact that you have caught it with a wing slightly spread.
