STOPS ALONG THE WAY

AMERICAN WIGEON

We saw a few pairs of wigeons for two years running but none last year at all. It was a strange year in the weather and seemed to effect the migration patterns of many birds, as few showed up in their usual numbers.
When we first saw these beautiful ducks they remained quite far from shore but as the summer and fall wore on they swam closer allowing for some good photo opportunities.

  3. They’re all out west but this year there are fewer of any species ducks around. Still lots, but fewer than other years. I wonder if it’s the colder weather. Maybe they headed farther south. Those that overwinter here haven’t stayed around in the great numbers we’ve had other years. Can’t blame them. If I had wings, I’d be gone too.

  6. Pretty! We have them here year round. I think the males are such beautiful little ducks. I’m happy you get to enjoy them briefly each year.

  7. Good view of the birds head. For me that’s about the only way I can ID them. They always mix in with Teals here. When the Green-winged Teals show up I’m lost. Same general markings, at least to me. Nice capture.
