I’m not sure if this is a bee or a bee mimic, perhaps someone might be able to confirm which it is. It was a three-fer day: summer, flowers and insects. The photo was taken hand held with my 300mm lens. I had planned on taking bird photos but I saw this opportunity and gave it a try. I usually only take one lens with me when I leave the house (I hate carrying a lot of equipment). You can get some nice close-up shots with long lenses too.

Definitely a bee. Perhaps a mining-bee of some kind (although I should say that I am not familiar with any American bee species!!). Nice shot.

Great (especially color) shot! I have a couple of different Cretaceous amber stones with the first bees embedded in them. They’ve been around for quite some time! 🙂

Really lovely intimate encounter with the bee, Belinda. The daisy is tremendously vibrant, and I love seeing the tiny hairs on the crest of the bee’s head and nape…perfect for catching pollen.

Awesome photos! I noticed last year while shooting some Joshua Tree seed pod things that the 70-300mm can get some good closeups. Seems odd because of the zoom.

Excellent! I prefer the color, also, for all the reasons Deborah stated. The composition and patterns of the flower parts combine to make a wonderful image!

Thank you Ellen. I love taking these flowers, good things always seem to happen when a daisy is in the frame😊

Both images are wonderful, but I love that color one. That yellow of the flower with the bee. Perfection! The eye highlight in the bee’s eye, and pollen on its leg stand out a lot more on the color image making it my favorite of the two.
I love the clarity, and detail of course, but those were down to your skill as a photographer…nailing this shot! BRAVO!
