STOPS ALONG THE WAY

ATOP THE PEONY

A walk in my downtown neighbourhood is always interesting.  It’s a mix of old and new homes and apartments many of which have tiny gardens. Although most of the peonies are beginning to fade, this particular bush has not yet come into flower and I focused on this ant as it ran in circles. I increased the shutter speed enough to get it in focus.

  5. Great pic! I always see ants on these; must be plenty of nectar-like substance there for them! 🙂

  7. Many plants actually secrete small amounts of sugary sweet liquid to attract ants because ants attack and drive off other insects that can be harmful to the plant. I don’t know if peonies are doing it too but I have seen ants on peonies so often I suspect they do.

  12. I didn’t know ants had hair on them. Your photo shows what I can’t even see on a live ant!
