The other day we followed a trail that led to an open field bordering a busy road. An unlikely spot to find wild grasses and flowers and skippers! We saw one skipper, then another, then a good number more. I would have preferred using a macro lens for these photos (I had a birding lens on my camera) but you can get some nice closeup shots with a telephoto lens too.

Sweet photos, Belinda! I like skippers. They often warm themselves on our deck railing in the mornings. They’re good company. 🙂

Lovely colors, clarity, and beautiful subjects Belinda! I’m waiting for the skippers to return to my yard. My Lantana is in full bloom so I’m hoping it will be soon.

I know you have over 200 species of Skipper in North America but that one looks identical to one we have here the Essex Skipper (Thymelicus lineola) we only have 8 species in the UK. Nice find B.

Here it’s known as the European Skipper, introduced to Canada in the early 1900s. Thank you.

Thank you Pete. They must have just emerged as I’ve never seen them in such numbers before.
