STOPS ALONG THE WAY

RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH

I hadn’t been to our local reserve in a while so I was particularly happy to see this Red-breasted nuthatch close to the entrance. A bit smaller than the white-breasted variety and not as numerous in our woods, this little guy was very active, flying and landing briefly in the surrounding trees. A nice start to our walk.

  1. I saw a nuthatch for the first time in my life a few weeks ago. There were three of them at Sherwood Forest. Such a wonderful sight. Thanks for sharing.

  2. Love that photo. We rarely have this little visitor at our feeder in New Hampshire. When we do, it’s a great day.

  3. The soft leaves complement the colour of the bird beautifully.

  10. Oh, he’s so sweet! It makes me think of how it feels to have them curl their toes around my finger when I was feeding them in the bird sanctuary ( some time ago now, but unforgettable).

  15. What striking colours – the facial features are vaguely similar to our Cape Robin-chat.
