STOPS ALONG THE WAY

AMERICAN GOLDFINCH

The goldfinch was moving between the late Fall sunflowers, feeding as it went. It seemed to have the field to itself as I saw no other birds around. It was quite acrobatic, most times balancing upside down. I was pleased to get this shot right-side up in perfect natural light.

  1. Not only is this shot right-side up in perfect natural light, the added flower sweetens the beauty. Well done, Belinda, she is a lovely lady!

  2. Cute little bird. I always think that the male American goldfinch looks much more golden than the species that is called goldfinch in the UK, although interestingly the female American goldfinch looks rather like our female chaffinch!

  3. Nice capture with a few daisies to cheer us. I have many goldfinches that come to our feeder, and their chirping chorus always brightens my day.

  5. I think it’s a female too. The males have bright yellow on them, don’t they? Very pretty birds. We rarely see them. I would call them occasional birds here. It’s a big deal if we see one!

  7. Is it a female, it looks rather like the female of the European goldfinch? Very nice pic 👍
