I’ve never seen a hybrid goose before. Its distinctive colouring and lone presence stood out on that March morning. It was still too early for the return of the Canada Geese but not for this bird and I was glad to spot him that day.

Sherry – I repost the same blog post more than once. Followers get the original notification email one time only. If you click on the original link and I’ve already reposted it won’t find the page. I appreciate you letting me know but I don’t think there’s any way around it.

Cool sighting, Belinda. I hope he finds a mate that overlooks his differences. Waterfowl don’t seem as picky as other species.

If he/she were a duck you could say “what an odd duck.” A very interesting find though. I’d like to know more about it if you find out anything.

Yes, I saw that. We have a duck (in the freezer) that was an accidental victim at a duck shoot. He has very pale colouring but could otherwise be a mallard. Now we are wondering if it could be a case of this leukism.

I think your photo shows a goose that is infected with leukism. Nothing bad, it’s a genetic defect. This goose lacked the color-forming melanin
