I’ve never seen a hybrid goose before. Its distinctive colouring and lone presence stood out on that March morning. It was still too early for the return of the Canada Geese but not for this bird and I was glad to spot him that day.
Nice duck.
I still get a page that says page not found every time I click on a link in my email to your posts. To see this page meant I had to go to your home page then this post page.
Sherry – I repost the same blog post more than once. Followers get the original notification email one time only. If you click on the original link and I’ve already reposted it won’t find the page. I appreciate you letting me know but I don’t think there’s any way around it.
Yes, I saw that. We have a duck (in the freezer) that was an accidental victim at a duck shoot. He has very pale colouring but could otherwise be a mallard. Now we are wondering if it could be a case of this leukism.

Great sighting! Looks like he’s asking if he can join in to play! 😉

It should still work even if it is a repost. WordPress can’t fix it?

They explained it’s the nature of my reposting and so it seems not. I am sorry for the inconvenience though.

Leucism in Canada Geese seems fairly common. But interesting to consider the ‘walk on the wildside’ option…

Ducks do it😊. I hadn’t really been aware of Leucism until now.

Cool sighting, Belinda. I hope he finds a mate that overlooks his differences. Waterfowl don’t seem as picky as other species.

If he/she were a duck you could say “what an odd duck.” A very interesting find though. I’d like to know more about it if you find out anything.

I thought he looked a bit lonesome.
See Werner’s comments above which seem to explain the bird’s appearance.

I think your photo shows a goose that is infected with leukism. Nothing bad, it’s a genetic defect. This goose lacked the color-forming melanin

Thank you. You could very well be right. I had thought at first it might be a snow goose mix but the bill colour was wrong.
