The Red or Canadian Columbine and Wood Poppy are wild flowers that grow in Eastern North America this time of year. I took these photos at the Wildlife Garden I mentioned in yesterday’s post. Between the birds and the flowers we’ll be visiting there as often as we can. We also stopped by our local nature reserve to see if it had reopened, it’s still closed due to high water levels. 😏

We have purple columbines that grow wild in my yard here in Virginia. They are so pretty.

The columbine is a beautiful flower, we call it Aquilegia and grow them in our UK garden. Our’s are mostly in shades of blue and purple and self seed nicely!

Yes indeed. I’ve only seen this type in the wild. The garden varieties vary in colour and are very beautiful.

Beautiful flowers. I know the columbine but I’m not familiar with the wood poppy. I thought at first it was a buttercup up close.

Thanks Anneli. The wood poppy is endangered and uncommon. It is a striking flower.
