STOPS ALONG THE WAY

BALANCING ACT

BCNHWe often see Black-crowned night herons intent on the water, performing this balancing act. They can hold the pose much longer than I can keep my camera raised. I took the photo from further than I would have liked but it does allow a glimpse of the surroundings.

  1. Awesome shot, Belinda, he’s definitely focused! I still get amazed at birds standing on on leg, especially while they sleep. Just how is that possible without falling over?! lol

  3. Very nice capture of the Black-crown out in the open, Belinda! I like the inclusion and shaded textures of the background. Waiting for the herons to “do something” can be fruitless 🙂 .

  5. without a tripod it is not always easy to keep the pose stable for a very long time, but it is even more rewarding when you do not use it

  6. What an unusual pose. Obviously not for the heron, but for the photograph. I like to see it in the context of its surroundings.
