People with backyard feeders tell me they often have blue jays visit their feeders. Living in the city and having no backyard, my sightings are in the woods and far less frequent. The bird’s noisy call usually alerts me to its presence as it did so here. The jay stopped for a minute amid the fall colours.

Birds are cool to look at. I like to bug the pelicans at the Embarcadero in my city. They get an attitude when I try to take photos of them it’s hilarious.

The shallow depth of field really makes the shot. Subtle colors contrasting the blues of the bird.
Up here in the piney woods, we are fortunate to be surrounded by them.
They are as much a part of the winter landscape as the sun on snow, the black-capped chickadees, snow-covered pines, dark-eyed juncos and the rare passing snow goose.
A beautiful specimen.

How nice to be surrounded by such beauty😊.
This jay was a handsome one and he posed so nicely. Thank you.

Until the last few years, I had only viewed Blue Jays from a distance. I was amazed when, with camera and bird feeder, I was able to see the marvellous patterns on their backs.

Beautiful shot Bleinda! I rarely see blue jays in our area as well, although we don’t have a feeder.

Nice portrait, Belinda. These are indeed noisy in their comings and goings, always scattering the smaller birds from the feeders. Kind of a neigborhood bully. 😉

We only have the steller’s jay here. These eastern bluejays are very pretty.

I have never seen a steller’s jay. The eastern variety is a very attractive bird.

They do have a brilliant pretty blue coat of feathers, but I’d sure like to see the regular jay here. Another bird I would love to have here is the cardinal. I have never seen a real live cardinal.

My husband puts out peanuts in the shell for the Blue Jays. I love to watch them swoop in and carry them away!

This is an excellent shot of these beautiful birds, Belinda. Last year I saw them in my friends garden in Midland, Ontario, but I did not succeed in getting a decent photo.
