STOPS ALONG THE WAY

SLIGHT SHIFT

I went for a walk in our neighbourhood today, a familiar route but one I hadn’t taken in the past few weeks. I noticed that the variety of flowers in the gardens had dwindled and what remained was looking tired. The weather is still hot and summer is still with us but the feeling of a long lazy summer stretching out before us is no longer there.

  1. I often feel that late summer countryside has a languid, not-quite-anything feel. This year is much crispier than usual, sadly, and most landscapes are turning brown rather than merely sleepy. A few wildflowers are clinging on.

  2. Hoping for rain with cooler weather so I can plant some fall flowers! Beautiful shot, too…

  3. Lovely summer moment here in your photo, Belinda, even if it is starting to feel past summer’s peak.

  5. Yes, I’ve noticed the change as well, that subtle tipping of the scales toward autumn when growth goes from leaf and flower to seed production. Kind of sad for us summer lovers, but autumn has its good parts, too. 🙂

  7. Ready for Fall, as long as it does its usual thing…instead of doing Summer’s thing. 🙂

  9. What’s left of the summer and lazy don’t compoute as all the chores that were avoided during the intense heat are still their. 🙂

  10. I like the way you have picked out the yellow here: another good illustration of the passing of a season.

  11. I’ve been noticing the same thing, but after the heat waves we’ve had, I’m not sorry for some relief. The fall promises to be pleasant.
