WINTER WOODPECKER

We’re lucky to have downy woodpeckers here all year round as most birds migrate south during the winter.  This male downy has found some insects to eat under the bark of the tree. They’re also seen more frequently at backyard feeders this time of year.

Nice shot, Belinda. Whether Downy or Hairy visit us, both are similar delights to have at the feeder year round.

They have definitely been raiding our feeders as of late – fighting the red-bellied for the good stuff ha.

Thanks for sharing. I enjoy these little guys at the feeder too. We are lucky to also have the Hairy which looks similar but is much larger.

Sweet shot, Belinda. They are hardy birds, and definitely a feeder friend in winter.

Nice shot Belinda! I miss seeing the woodpeckers we used to see in South Jersey. I hear them sometimes but have only spotted a flicker and a sapsucker.

Great capture. Beautiful bird. We had a couple live with us for awhile, and they were fun to watch.
