STOPS ALONG THE WAY

MIGHTY ANT

Ants and peonies seem to go together. Ants protect the flowers from nuisance pests and the flowers provide the ants with nectar. A win win.  I enjoy these flowers too as well as the sport of catching an ant as it speeds around the peony buds!

When I was a kid on the farm we had a row of peony bushes along the lane. I would watch the ants for hours. And the sky. And tadpoles. Sigh… 🤣

What a beautiful photo to share an ant!! It’s say, “Mine. Mine all mine!” 🙂

Yes I have noticed that, but even on an unopened bud, which suggests either great foresight or leaking nectar. Or the smell of nectar being made inside the bud?

Great picture. I’ve seen ants on peony buds often and it is a typical combination. Nice photo of them both.

Peonies are so beautiful, and I like symbiotic relationship between them and the ants. Something we humans could emulate. 🙂
