COMMON GRACKLE

I’ve seen only a few grackles this year, this one was close enough to get a decent image. Like some other birds, grackles have a bad reputation. They can be bullies at feeders and forage in gardens and farmers’ fields. I enjoy them though and like the way the sun illuminates their plumage. Another bird that migrates here during the warm months.

They do have amazing colors! I have learned to love Grackles some this Spring, lol, even though they are the biggest piggies at my feeders (besides the squirrel lol). In the past few weeks I’ve been watching the baby grackles chasing the parents in my yard, just like any other baby bird, screaming & begging. Really comical. And oh my, baby Grackles aren’t too cute or colorful at that age! 😉

Your photo captures the light just right on this grackle, Belinda, highlighting his gorgeous array of colors and markings.

I love that bright turquoise spot of color on its neck. Great sighting and catch, Belinda!

Maybe because they aren’t common here, we appreciate them more? I’ve seen only a few recently, their call is unmistakeable. Nice take, Belinda!

Thank you for this clear portrait – I read about Grackles but now will have a good idea of what they look like. The black feathers look as if they are irridescent in certain light – and I like its eye.

The Grackle is very common in Las Vegas, if you are in the right spot, the sun illuminates the feathers that look so pretty.
