The groundhog was fattening up for his long winter sleep. In our climate they will hibernate in their burrows from October through March or April.Weโre under a winter storm watch today, so I think they have the right idea. ๐
This groundhog looks ready for the winter! We used to have one that lived on the hill in the back of our house – always a source of entertainment when it would stand up and look around ๐
True – we had some neighbors who didn’t like the groundhog. They set a trap – a very unpopular move. Another neighbor put a stuffed animal in the trap to send a message. That was about 15 years ago and we still talk about it!
Perhaps they should have been called Roundhogs! Lovely photos, we donโt have anything like that here โฆ maybe Wombats but they are much bigger and even rounder!

This is a fun photo, Belinda, because it really does look like he’s thinking hard and as you say, planning ahead.

Groundhog Day groundhogs always look a bit grumpy. Canโt blame them though as their sleep is disturbed to give us a spring forecast ๐
