We had driven to a spot outside the city hoping to photograph some birds. It was a quiet day with little around but we did see this cormorant. We watched him fish for a while (with no luck) but he did put on a nice display as he dried his feathers.

How do we call this guy in English? I call it Lip (pronounced Lib) or Liɛch.

It might be that I haven’t been out enough this past spring or last fall, but I haven’t seen any cormorants this year, and usually see one or two, especially at a national wildlife refuge about an hour from where I live. The migration just seemed different this year.

There’s just something so special about seeing a cormorant sitting with his wings spread like this, Belinda. Especially on such a small base!

Cormorants are rather ungainly looking but they’re sure fun to watch. Great photo of him! 😊
