STOPS ALONG THE WAY

Black-crowned Night Heron

All of the herons who migrate here in the spring have flown south by now but I thought it would be nice to look back to earlier in the season.  I took this photo in May, The heron was sporting its breeding plumage including its white head plumes which were just visible in this shot.

The Great Blue Herons are more prevalent here too, along with a green heron every now and again. Although birders I know see more species than eye. Fun to see the vareity.

Very nice reminder of spring. You did well to get one of those skulkers on camera.

Yes, it’s becoming that time of year when we start looking through the archives for photos that reflect warmer times! That’s a great picture, Belinda. A very pretty bird. I don’t think I’ve ever seen one.

I sure wish we had this bird out here on the island. Such pretty colours, and unique shape. Great picture!
