I noticed the ‘ladder-like’ pattern on its back and wondered if another name for it was ‘ladderback.’ Now I know: that’s a different species, and this one’s different from the red-bellied that comes to my feeder. It’s not even 8 a.m., and I’ve already learned something today!
You are welcome, Neither had I so I sent a pic to my sister who is a life-long birder. She knew right away via the text what kind of woodpecker it was. She can tell you what specie a bird is while simply walking along. Wow!

Great way to start the day! We also have the red-bellied here but not the ladderback.

I always love a woodpecker, especially their black and white feathers make such a snazzy look. Nice capture with his hint of red, too!

A lovely photo, Belinda! I have seen a Ladder Back woodpecker twice on the Hummingbird feeders in my backyard.
