These birds look intense or angry and rather funny at the same time. I often see grackles by the water, so I’m surprised to see so many this year in city gardens.

Great photo, Belinda. 😊 Grackles are very intelligent birds but yes, they often look angry and funny at the same time. I used to hang song bird feeders that were difficult for them to access but then I saw one flying at it and bumping it enough for some seed to spill out. Then four or five were doing the same thing and emptying it inside of a half-hour! I had to remove the feeder and replace it with one that was more grackle proof.

This reminds me of some of our glossy or pied starlings: they have a similar angry / funny look 🙂
