I think she was a young duck, her head feathers are still a bit fine and wispy, that and her curious stare.

That’s a terrific photo, Belinda. 😊 I like ducks – mallards, wood, merganser – they all seem to get on with everyone else, even the grumpy Canada geese and jittery quail. You’ve captured that sense of them in your picture.
