STOPS ALONG THE WAY

WHITE AND RED (THREE PHOTOGRAPHS)

I don’t often see nuthatches on the ground searching for food, as in the first photo. More frequently I see them moving along branches and trunks of trees at challenging angles. The first two nuthatches are white-breasted, the third is red-breasted, not nearly as common in this part of the country and especially nice to see.

I’ve seen one on the ground just once. These are great shots of a fun bird.

Love the red-breasted. They are rarely seen around here.

I don’t even know whether I’ve ever seen a Nuthatch at all . . . But it did appear unusual on the ground in the first shot. Lovely photos of this very lovely bird, Belinda!

Sweet captures, Belinda. Nuthatches have a call that sounds to me like laughing, which always makes me smile. Happy woodlanders!

I agree, Nuthatches are mainly in the trees – was food maybe scarce, or was there something especially appetising / available on the ground? These are wonderful pictures, and I especially like the intimacy of the middle shot – there is real eye contact there. A

I love these little birds. They’re such characters and they’re pretty brazen about coming close. Great photos of them. Nice and clear. You must have a wonderful camera, and of course, you know how to use it!
