STOPS ALONG THE WAY

THOUGHT I HEARD A RED WINGED BLACKBIRD

The first time I photographed a female red winged blackbird I wasn’t sure what I was looking at. The female is so unlike the male in appearance. They are quieter too, often in the underbrush gathering nesting material as this bird was. They do blend in quite well so I was pleased to have taken this shot.

I’d had trouble ID’ing this little bird, just these past few days.
    Thanks for the photo!

Great shot! And now I’ll be humming that song for hours, as always whenever I see a Red-winged Blackbird!

They are pretty in their own way! Quite a difference but not as much of a difference as with male and female Eclectus Parrots. Even scientists thought that they were different species! 🙂

Good catch. I still have a hard time identifying them in the woods.

They can be tricky to ID can’t they with their sparrow like markings, and almost meadowlark beak. 🙂 Thankfully they are usually near the male Red Wing Blackbirds so they’re easier to ID.

    Nice sighting!

Definitely quite different from the male. But what markings she has!
