STOPS ALONG THE WAY

EASTERN PHOEBE

PhoebeThanks to BirdNation for correctly identifying the bird as a red-eyed vireo. I guess the text below isn’t too relevant now😏

The Eastern Phoebe is a member of the flycatcher family and returns to our woods in spring. Most of the birds on this particular day remained too far away to photograph. The Phoebe decided to fly in closer but remained in a shady spot. In this case, I think the shadow on his feathers added some interest.

Looks like you have yourself a Red-eyed Vireo. Eastern Phoebes are pretty dark gray-brown and lack the “eyebrows” that this video has. This is a fantastic shot! Red-eyed Vireos are usually notoriously hard to spot in the leaves, and you capture its beautiful detail perfectly!

It sure does add interest. I had to take a good look to see which were the phoebe’s true designs. Beautiful little bird, and I love the “shy” way it seems to be posing.
