FEMALE WOOD DUCK August 4, 2024 by belindagroverphotography 16 Comments I tend to see wood ducks in small groups or swimming off on their own. They do mingle with other ducks but tend to be quieter types. Like Loading...

How lucky for you that you see wood ducks in groups! We were so thrilled this year to see two pairs, and they were the ‘ big attraction’ of the wetlands for several weeks when one female was nesting in a log.

We usually see 3-4 pairs when we do see them. It’s always a good day with a wood duck sighting !

I like the coloring of this duck. I don’t think I’ve seen a wood duck before!

The females are more subtly coloured than the males but still lovely ducks 😊. Thanks for your comment!

Yes, they are much more sedate than mallards, for example. They’re so pretty and always look so calm. Beautiful photo. 😊
