The orioles arrived right on schedule in mid-May. May is their peak nesting period and we saw more than we normally do this year. Haven’t seen them since though. They are such brilliant little birds and add welcome colour to the spring landscape. This oriole kept popping in and out of the flowering tree, I guess there were many insects about.

How beautiful. I miss seeing them from my New Jersey boyhood. Here in Utah we have the Bullock’s Oriole. In flight it can be difficult to distinguish them from a Black-headed Grossbeak. I saw one of them (not sure which) for an instant yesterday on my canyon bike ride.

Oh, how lucky you are! We had a female Orchard Oriole last year but she only wanted some nest material from our hanging basket. We never saw her again. Lovely photos!

The only oriole I’ve ever seen is the Bullock’s oriole – very pretty and with a lovely song. It was a rare sighting and the birds were just passing through. I would love to see more orioles and have the chance to see them as often as you do! Lovely photo.
