I’ve seen more Red-winged blackbirds this spring than I have in many years.More males than females though, so I was pleased to see and hear this female.
She is lovely. Wonderful photo! I have yet to see any females around here, but the males have been abundant and vocal, so much fun to watch from a distance!

They must have had a good winter, hope they will have an equally good summer!

Thanks very much! The females are better camouflaged but I’m sure they’re out there 😊

Her colours are definitely more muted than her husband’s. Still pretty though.

Thanks. When I first took up photography, I didn’t know at first what the bird was 😏

It’s nice that you captured her mid-chirp. I suppose she will have her pick of the fellas, with so many around this year.

Nice image of her, Belinda. I wonder if the males show up first?

Thank you. It seems they do, they return first and leave after the female in the fall.

Thank you, Anne! She remained in place for a while unlike many other birds. 😊
