There’s something very appealing about these back porches. You get a feel for the people who live in these houses, from the flowers to the statuary to the pet’s water bowl. They reveal more about their occupants than the street view implies.
It’s true- when I was young and lived in apartments, the only place to garden was on the porch (and oh yes) the fire escape. Luckily they were small pots and we never needed to use the fire escape! 🙂
You are right, people always indicate by different things who they are and how they live. I love your color photo although the B&W, especially the boots photo is just great to see.
I like all the little details the occupants have added to make it homey and the insets /plaques in the building exterior. Newer buildings just don’t have those embellishments. Nice capture of the whole scene!
Each has aspects that are enhanced. I find that in b/w, the lines and patterns are often highlighted, but colour softens the effect and sometimes that’s a good thing too.

So do I, I’m struck by the lack of architectural detail anymore. Thank you Ellen!

Both of the first two pics are good but the texture shows up better in b/w I think. Love that little statue in the corner of the porch.

I prefer the colour version of the first photo, I find the b/w starker than the sentiments the scene evoked. As always, I appreciate your comments!
