STOPS ALONG THE WAY

FIRST DRAGONFLIES (TWO PHOTOGRAPHS)

In the past week we’ve seen our first dragonflies of the season. Once these insects appear summer is truly on its way. Since I rarely carry more than one lens with me, and had set out to photograph birds that day, these were taken with my 300mm lens. I took plenty of shots, the dragonfly was in no hurry to fly off, and though some were discarded I had quite a few keepers. I look forward to the weeks that follow with more dragonfly varieties emerging as well as the appearance of damselflies.

Really strange creatures. Nice images, but odd bugs 😀😀. Ellen seems fascinated with them lately. I’ll let you two chase them around.

Very nice shots with such interesting wings. And on Lily of the Valley as a bonus!

I used to be afraid of these scary insects but now I can see that they have their own kind of beauty.

Cool shots and heartening prospect of summer. My spouse told me about one he watched emerging from its aquatic state on a rock in our stream. Sadly, I was away and missed the whole thing!

Sweet! 🙂 I went to a local pond looking for some yesterday; none to be found.

Very nice! Dragonflies are one of my favorite subjects. I usually use a 300mm or a 400mm lens with extension tubes with a 1.4x teleconverter if needed.

Wonderful images, Belinda! I really like the shape and movement of the wings in the top image. Down by the river I tend to use my 300mm lens for dragonflies as they are not always very approachable.

Lovely pics. Looks like it’s wings are still unfurling?
