CHICKADEE (TWO PHOTOGRAPHS)

The chickadee is another all-weather bird here in our forests. To survive the cold winters they remain in flocks to search for food. These flocks are known collectively as a banditry of chickadees, which makes sense as they appear to be wearing masks. They are fearless and adaptable little birds, always a pleasure to see and hear on the trails.

Sweet little birds. My sister told me today that chickadees are moving northwards with the change in climate. I hope they don’t all go, I love them!

Great pics, Belinda! Sweetly beautiful, those diminutive chickadees! I’ve been feeding the birds in our Siberian cold weather a lot lately. How they can maintain 103 degree F body temps in this weather is phenomenal!

I didn’t know they were called a banditry. How fitting! I think everyone loves these little guys. Beautiful photos.

Nice shots Belinda. Chickadees are my favorites! I can watch them for hours and have even had one eat out of my hand. Not long after the Winter Solstice you’ll hear them start singing their spring songs. Despite the Arctic cold we’ve been having here in Vermont, I’ve been hearing it!

Great clear image up close 😀. One of my favorite birds and one I always associate with winter and snow…along with a Junco of course 😀

They are definitely among my favorites in our Minnesota woods. If I stand still and stage-whisper “tick-a-chee-chee-chee,” their curiosity will often encourage them to come within a few feet. It really works!
