STOPS ALONG THE WAY

ON FROZEN POND

I caught this mallard as she cautiously made her way along the frozen surface. Her footing was tricky as was the light on that November afternoon. The low sun brought colour and depth to the ice but darkened the bird. I made some contrast and exposure adjustments in Photoshop which balanced out the shot.

You have captured its concentration, and thanks for the link to the interesting piece on how birds survive winter. Keep warm yourself too!

I’ve been fascinated this year watching birds walk on frozen lakes, ponds, etc. Great shot Belinda!

I have been observing ducks for decades, and I have never seen this tentative dance on ice. Spectacular find, Belinda, and excellent photo.

That’s determination…it might have been easier to fly where ever she was headed. Nice image!

And that is us today. A rare snow / ice storm, first in many years. Our tropical birds are not happy today.

Poor thing! Good photo, but I feel sorry for the duck.
