STOPS ALONG THE WAY

THIS OLD TREE

I have always loved this old tree. It hangs on by the edge of the lake, battered and scarred but still standing. The graceful curve of its bark forming a waterfall-like reflection in the water and one of its branches forming a jetty. Birds still gather near it, the wood duck and her chicks having a rest for a while.

Soothing image, Belinda. Willows are tenacious, resprouting continually. Gotta admire that!

How I love trees and become attached to them (emotionally I mean, not grafted).
Down the road is an ancient maple, I call it the Methuselah Tree.
It stands guard faithfully on a turn in the road.
Some years ago, those required to do such things sawed off the large, trunk-like appendage of the tree that hung ten feet out over Engleville Road. I was saddened to see his arm severed, and thought it might be a harbinger of bad news.
Alas, Methuselah still stands, and lives, flaunting the scar of his amputation.

    Seek peace,

    Paz

What a lovely photo this is, Belinda. Spring, the reflections. The tree is distinct and beautiful, and oh how adorable the wood duck chicks are, with their vigilant-sentry mother. They must be nesting around there somewhere, because those are really little chicks.

Nice! Reminds me of a place near where I used to live. I would meet friends at a local Wildlife Refuge and your image here is very similar of the view by the first lookout platform by the lake. Brings back fond memories! Thank you!
