GREAT BLUE HERON (THREE PHOTOGRAPHS)

I have had few opportunities this summer to see or photograph Great Blue Herons. In fact we’ve seen fewer birds of any kind this year. This handsome bird, although a distance from shore, was not hiding in the reeds so we were able to get clear photographs. I hope for more sightings as I have to get my fill before the cold weather sets in and the herons head south.

Magnificent birds – hope you get more sightings now that the young have fledged. Hard to believe fall migration is eminent!

I had to smile seeing this picture. Last week my daughter and I took a one time painting class and we both painted a Blue Heron. When my daughter was young there was a Blue Heron eating the fish in my little goldfish pond while I was sleeping. When I got up she told me to look because there was a blue flamingo at our pond eating our fish……hahahahaha We laugh all the time remembering this and did the painting so we won’t forget.

I wonder why you’re seeing fewer birds? At any rate, these are great photos.

Lovely trio of images Belinda! That Blue Heron has great taste landing and fishing in a lily pond. 😊

Lovely images, we find them in good numbers in our region. They are not that shy but once gets disturbed flyaways far.

They are really special; their unique look and the way they move and stalk and stand still for so long. That last part is good for posing for the camera. I love seeing them.

Very nice images, Belinda! Love the lily pads on the pond and the last image with the heron’s head down by the lily is especially nice.
