STOPS ALONG THE WAY

CHIPMUNK

We’ve seen more chipmunks than usual this summer. Two reasons for this I imagine – their food sources are plentiful and we’ve seen fewer of their natural enemies in the woods, hawks and owls. This little guy was enjoying a snack and judging from his full cheeks hadn’t finished consuming an earlier one.

  1. So sweet! We have two – a male and female, I believe, from circumstantial evidence – and they are stocking up for the winter now. They don’t hibernate, so they need to stock their burrows with seed so they can wake up every so often and eat. They are my favorite backyard rodents.

  4. Hah, pouches full! There have been a lot of them here as well. They and the squirrels are starting to go gangbusters on winter storage collection. The dog is going crazy! 😀

  13. Sad, but we rarely see them here. They can be pests, until their not around.
