DRAGONFLY 1

Dragonfly

Although we’ve seen some dragonflies this summer, this is the first I’ve photographed. There seem to be fewer this year, perhaps the fault of our cold wet spring. When you do nature photography you tend to celebrate the first returning bird, sight of a flower, even the first insect! This dragonfly was particularly welcome as he posed so nicely for the photograph.

Oh, congratulations!! Three days ago, some beautiful dragonflies kept weaving in and out of my line of sight, but they wound’t lite on anything, so I couldn’t capture their beauty. Still waiting…..

This reminds me of a haiku that I liked:
    The dragonfly
    His face
    is very nearly
    only eye.

I got excited this month about spotting our first dragonfly too, it’s a thrill. Great photograph, Belinda; beautiful details in the wings and leaf veins, and I loved seeing the dragonfly’s shadow.
