We saw many Painted Ladies last summer and I was fortunate to take a lot of photographs. The butterflies weren’t flighty but if one flew off there were many more to replace it. More photos to come.

Oh, so lovely. I espec. like the first one with the fine, brown hairs showing on the back and the antenna clubs so distinct against the bright pink backdrop. Fantastic photos, Belinda.

We used painted lady butterflies for showing the life cycle of a butterfly in my class at school. It was part of the science curriculum. It was really something to watch this process and then release the butterflies.

It must have been. A nature museum here had a live display of the various stages of a butterfly’s development. A few were even emerging from their chrysalis.
