
Sun loving painted turtles dig into the mud at the bottom of lakes and ponds over the winter. Their metabolism slows down and they can survive without food and very little oxygen. They’re not stirring yet but as spring returns and the days get warmer we’ll be seeing them again in great numbers.

I know. I saw the forecast. Winter just doesn’t want to let go. It’s supposed to blow tomorrow so I think March will definitely come in like a lion. Waiting for lambing time.

Such a fascinating creature! I remember them on the shores of the lake I grew up on in Michigan. ❤️

They are. I enjoy seeing them lined up on a log sunning themselves or taking a swim. Counting the days 😊
