The common pigeon wouldn’t win any popularity contests but I do photograph them from time to time. They’re content to pose and have attractive colouring. And in winter with a shortage of bird subjects, I make allowances 😏
Lovely photo, pigeons do have some beautiful colourings. I feel bad for them, we domesticated them thousands of years ago to us as carrier pigeons and then just cast them aside when we no longer needed them. That’s why they are so attracted to being around humans.
It’s a Rock Pigeon, they are a real problem here in Las Vegas. Companies specialise in removing them. I can’t feed the little birds in my backyard because of them, only the Hummingbirds get fed. Funny though, I have seen this specie in photos in Europe!
If there were not so many of them – and if they were not regarded as a nuisance by so many people – we would be in awe of their beautiful colouring. This is a wonderful portrait of one!

We don’t have a lot of pigeons around here so I’m happy to see this picture!

Great capture of those iridescent colors, Belinda! I’ve never been a big fan of pigeons, but over time have come to appreciate them.

They do get around 😏. It’s too bad they crowd out other birds at your feeder.

Yes, it’s a bummer but the little birds do enjoy having a bath in the birdbaths, so fun to watch. ❤️

The lowly Pigeon, no respect. They can out fly a hawk, navigate thousands of miles, and have a neon like shine in some light. The lowly Pigeon….😆

Agreed – they definitely wouldn’t win any popularity contests, but they are certainly reliable and colourful! Great photo. 😊
