STOPS ALONG THE WAY

Friday Grackle

I’ve seen a lot of grackles this year although I’ve seen fewer birds in general. Grackles are intelligent birds and fun to watch as they go about their business. They are known for their striking yellow eyes and iridescent plumage. This bird was enjoying a snack in the shade so its colouring was more subdued.

I haven’t seen them here on the west coast, but they would be unmistakable with that bright yellow eye.

I love those yellow eyes! It is interesting how birds populations can shift from year to year. Sometimes it is hard to know if that is normal or something to be concerned about. While some species are declining in one area, they are increasing elsewhere, we need E-bird to tell us the overall trends.

Yes, grackles are amazingly intelligent and will employ all kinds of means to get something to eat. They definitely aren’t bird-brained! A great capture of this one, Belinda. 😊
