I came across this cottontail one morning last spring. As they are usually nocturnal I thought this was a bit of luck and given what he was up to, doubly so. I guess his snack was of more concern than I was because he held his ground which allowed me to capture him mid chew. Out of camera the shot was in the centre of the frame, I thought this crop gave the picture more impact.

Absolutely amazing. He’s perfect. And I would not have thought to crop so close to the edge, but it really works.

Great capture! I agree with Nick, I think she has a mouth full of nesting material. Their ‘freeze’ instinct makes them easy to capture, but take a step too close and they are gone, ‘quick as a bunny!’

Nice composition of the head though a lot of empty space with distracting grass to left attracts the attention away.

Excellent! Given their preference for broad-leaved herbaceous foods, and the time of year, I’m wondering if that is a mouth full of nest building material. Did you continue to observe after the shot??

Thanks. I took the photo in mid May so perhaps you’re right. I took a number of shots before it left. I think it’s one sheepish looking rabbit!
