RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH

Nuthatch

This variety of nuthatch is less common in Eastern Ontario than the larger white-breasted nuthatch. They are little acrobats, moving up, down and sideways along the tree trunks. This bird was in deep shade but I took many shots as it was a cooperative subject. The photo was dark out of camera, only the plant material near its beak was nicely lit. I made some contrast and exposure adjustments in Lightroom and Photoshop to get the photo you see here.

Dificult to photograph, he move all the time, problems with the light and shodows of the tree, and he walk also the head upside down.
But you, you did a great job.

That looks very like our nuthatches. They are very pretty birds.

Some of our nuthatches are a bit rosier, but possibly it’s the difference between male and female (not sure). Very nice close-up of this one. You can see he has something on his beak where he’s been busy picking at something. I love their call. It’s very unique. Enk! Enk! Enk!

I don’t see them very often in New England either. Good shot of a little speed demon.
