STOPS ALONG THE WAY

SONG SPARROW (TWO PHOTOGRAPHS)

These little birds blend in so well that often it’s only their song that alerts you to their presence. We were joined on the trail by some avid birdwatchers who happened to point this one out. Song sparrows migrate to our region in the warmer months to breed, along with other summer visitors. Always a pleasure to see yet another species return for a while.

What a joy to come upon the song sparrow, and you’re right, Belinda, they often just pop around unnoticed. But then they break open their song and fill the air with sweetness. Lovely photos, as always.

Love the second shot and the branches do not distract at all.

The more I see the birds you are photographing the more I realize how different our environment is. Birds like these we also would shoot, regularly. Now in the marshlands I see them rarely.

We may be spending some time in the woodlands further inland, should be interesting to see if it is closer to the north. Thanks for sharing. 😀

Different environments with their own beauty. We anticipate every new arrival in our short summer. And enjoy your more exotic creatures vicariously. BTW, enjoyed seeing the first of the tulips yesterday and snow flurries a possibility overnight 😏

I used to think sparrows were boring birds. No fancy bright colours. But they have the most beautiful songs! And now that I look more closely at the photos of them, I see that each feather has a special design to create that camouflage effect. A humble bird with lot of musical talent.
