These photos were taken in early spring. You can still see a few snow patches on the ground in the first one. An empty playground on the weekend, always feels a bit off, eerily quiet. Closer to the market district I found a series of these painted cubes in the centre median of a roadway. They were an interesting counterpoint to the old buildings surrounding them.

Winter has such a bleak look. It’s interesting the things a photograph can capture. You mentioned the contrast the cubes provide against the old buildings, and I noticed that way in the background to the right, you have more contrast with the newer style buildings.
And in the first photo, is that a mosque in the background?

It certainly does.
I liked the close proximity of the old building across the street but the modern structure does provide a lot of contrast. The building in the first photo is a Russian Orthodox Church.
