Most ducks have left our rivers and lakes as the water begins to freeze. A few mallards remain by the open water in a reserve we visit but the majority have left for the season. These photos were taken a month ago when the fall colours were at their height.

Love the beautiful patterns and colors of their feathers in both photos!

Belinda, I’m always impressed by how you can give the common mallard such a sparkling look.

Thanks Anneli. Barely a day goes by that I don’t see a mallard when at the lake and I’ve become familiar with their behaviour. They are very engaging subjects😊

Both are beautiful images. I especially enjoy the reflection in the second one.

Hello Belinda,
I do love your Mallard Duck photos especially! If I may say so, I can feel your fondness for these beautiful birds 🙂
In Japan, many ducks decide to spend their winter here, so we are starting to see the increase in ducks (and grebes) in our oceans and ponds. I wish you a very happy and healthy winter holidays season!
